Terms of use
Last updated October 4, 2026
The short version. The app is free for trainees. The dashboard is in early access for programs and needs our approval. OnService helps you keep track of hours; it does not replace your program's official reporting, and its Bandwidth score is an estimate, not medical advice. Do not put patient information in it.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of OnService ("OnService", "we"). They cover the OnService app, the OnService dashboard and this website. By using any of them you agree to these terms. If you use the dashboard on behalf of a program or institution, you agree on its behalf and confirm that you are allowed to.
2. Who can use OnService
You must be at least 18. The app is for residents, fellows and other trainees. The dashboard is for the people who run their programs.
3. The app
The app is free for trainees. Your log is stored on your own phone, and you are responsible for keeping a copy if you need one. We cannot recover a log that has been erased from a phone.
4. The dashboard
A dashboard account works only after we approve it. The dashboard is in early access. If we later charge for it, the price and terms will be agreed with your program before anything is billed. We may end a program's early access, or suspend its teams if these terms are not followed; residents' apps keep working as before.
The account that creates a team is responsible for who it adds as coordinators, and for removing them when they should no longer have access.
5. What programs agree to
- Residents decide whether to share with a team, and may pause or leave. Whether your program asks or requires them to share is a matter between you and your residents; OnService does not decide it and will not override a resident's choice in the app.
- You will use what residents share in line with your institution's policies and the requirements that apply to your program.
- You remain responsible for your program's own duty-hour monitoring and reporting.
6. What OnService is not
- Not medical advice. The Bandwidth numbers are estimates worked out from logged hours with a simple model. They do not measure alertness, and they do not say whether anyone is safe or fit to work, drive or care for patients.
- Not an official record. Hours and flags come from what each person logs. They can be incomplete or wrong. The ACGME checks are our reading of published requirements applied to logged hours, and they may differ from how your program, your institution or the ACGME counts.
- Not affiliated with the ACGME. OnService is independent and is not endorsed by the ACGME or by any training program.
7. No patient information
Do not enter information about patients anywhere in OnService. It is not designed to hold it.
8. Fair use
Do not try to reach data that is not yours, share a join code outside your program, interfere with the service, copy it to build a competing one, or use it to break the law. We may suspend access that does any of these.
9. Your data and ours
Your log is yours. If you share it with a team, you allow us to store it and show it to that team's coordinators until you pause or leave. Our privacy page says what is collected and who can see it. The OnService name, software and design belong to us.
10. Changes and availability
We may change or stop parts of OnService, and we may update these terms. If a change matters, we will post it here and, for programs using the dashboard, write to the account holder. We aim to keep the service running but do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors.
11. Warranty and liability
OnService is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, OnService is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions made on the basis of what the app or dashboard shows, and our total liability to a program is limited to what that program paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $100 if it paid nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, and disputes will be heard in the courts located there.
13. Contact
Write to the contact address on the home page.
